MARY KAY MAKEUP FUN

Recently I was given the awesome opportunity to sit down with my friend Heidi for a fun little beauty sesh with some Mary Kay products. As a consultant for the company, she was challenged to makeover 50 faces for June; so when she asked if I could help out and be one of her faces, I was thrilled! We did everything from satin hands (soo soft!) to conturing cheeks and eyebrows (but not like Kim Kardashian. *yikes*). At the end of the night I walked (more like strutted) away rocking a fab look that I absolutely loved! As a bonus, the six-year consultant shared some of her favorite things about the company. When asked about her favorite products, she quickly answered concealer and mascara. As far as benefits about the company itself, "They give me prizes for doing my job!" she says, while adding that their priority list lines up with hers- God first, then family, then career (<< I didn't know the company was so open about God. That was very cool to find out!). And of course, I had to ask what she'd do if she received the famous Mary Kay pink Cadillac: "I don't know, throw a party! Drive it to church! Drive it everywhere!" If I were in that situation, I think my reaction would be the same, haha. Thanks again for the fun evening, Heidi :)!

Since I have blue eyes, we experimented with more browns and golds. For my lips we went with the Rosette lipstick and a Berry Tart gloss (I ended up taking both home because I liked them so much!).

STARS AND STRIPES AND HOMEMADE DOCUMENTARIES

I hope you all had a fabulous fourth! For the holiday my family (minus Haley :() went to our cottage up north with a few of our relatives. For the first time in my life, I was the only cousin up there. Typically I at least have my sister, but times change and people move away, and it's just not as easy to get together as it was before. Even though my cottage experience was a different flavor than normal, I still had a blast (what can I say, my aunt and uncles are a hoot ;)! We went out for a day and hung out at some of our favorite spots, took our time soaking up some sun at the pond, and played "name that tune" around the campfire (that last one was hard for me. How am I supposed to know that one song from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation!?). It's funny how I brought a huge stack of books  planning on being bored with time to kill all day, and I didn't even get a hundred pages into my first book! The internet was a little rougher, though. My addiction is stronger than ever and Sprint does not do up north very well (Verizon, however, doesn't have so much of a problem. My Uncle Matt and Aunt Nancy were checkin their phones without an issue :P) Needless to say, I love my family and it was great seeing their faces for a whole weekend in beautiful northern Michigan!

EXPRESSION: GOD BLESS AMERICA

During basketball season, I only had two jobs. 1. Take stats of how much time each player played. 2. Play the national anthem before home games with Laynie. Let me tell you, #2 was probably one of the most stressful jobs I've ever had (darn you, six silent seconds before the first note!). But thanks to that experience, I can guarantee to you that (when I randomly break out as a super awesome singing star) I will NOT be one of those pathetic celebrities who forgets the lyrics to the National Anthem on live TV (I mean really, people)! So in honor of our country's 237th birthday, I thought I'd remind you . . .

Oh say, can you see

By the dawn's early light

What so proudly we hailed

At the twilight's last gleaming

Whose broad stripes and bright stars

Through the perilous fight

'Or the ramparts we watched

Were so gallantly streaming

And the rockets' red glare

So I'd like to give a big THANK YOU to 1. God for blessing our nation far beyond what we deserve, and 2. our soldiers who fight so bravely and give up so much. Have a happy 4th!

FALLING FOR: THIS MODERN ROMANCE

Although I'm not really interested in being a photographer, the art of capturing interesting images fascinates me. I love to see the different tones, moods, feelings, locations, styles, lighting, props, models, poses... the list goes on and on! Editorial is my absolute favorite style of photography. One of the questions I always ask myself when looking at a photo is, "Could I see this in a magazine?" (my second is, "Would I repin this on Pinterest?"). So when I came across the work of couple Stephanie and Isaac over at This Modern Romance, I fell in love. So artful, so luxe . . . these are definitely the kind of shoots that I'll remember for a long time!

PEEL! BANANAS! PEEL PEEL, BANANAS!

Anyone else sing that song around their family campfire? Just us? Ok, your loss. I'm totally seeing bananas these days and it's really okay with me. I mean, just look how fun! "Yeah I've got a moto jacket, but it's a bajillion times better than yours because it's covered in bananas." Mhm. Be jealous.

1. How cool is this piece by Georgina Vinsun? Check out her stuff.

2. Sleeping bag, LET ME SNUGGLE YOU! You totally beat out my hand-me-down Coleman.

3. This song is ultra catchy. Plus little Kim Jong Un dances around passing out flowers and spreading peace (TAKE A HINT, NORTH KOREA). Bonus: Hannah Hooper has that chicken-having-a-temper-tantrum move dooown.

MY PARTY WAS THE BOMB

Of course just showing you some pictures and giving you some details isn't going to do the event justice, but I figured I'd try. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and just imaaagine... wait, no. I take that back; open your eyes, you have to see the pictures! I'll give you a walkthrough. Party recap time!

1PM - My good friend Abbi helped me put up pictures, hang ruffle garland (harder than you'd expect), and plate food (among other things). Check out the shortest video of all time >>

2PM - All the little details are finished!

3PM - 4PM - Stretching and meditation, because I party hard.

JK. It was mostly food prep and talking to relatives and helpers.

4PM - 7:30PM - Welcome! Grab a plate! Salad, mashed potatoes, and chicken? Step outside and say hello to the graduate! Clearwater Christian College, business major (was communication arts major until I found out two days prior that that was only offered as a minor now, but I'm totally content with business). Peruse my pictures, please! Have a seat under the tent, nibble on some sixlets and admire the carnations. What's that you hear? Why yes, that is the Creepy Clyde on keyboard (he's actually really great, don't be thrown by the "creepy" title. I don't know who came up with that). The drinks for the evening are water with cucumber and mint, water with lemon, iced tea, and Liz Elwart's famous lemonade (alas, I didn't get to the famous lemonade *sad face*)! I don't have to tempt you with dessert, one of Shelly Keenan's fabulous vanilla bean cupcakes is already in your hand and Haley's peanut butter dream bars are eyeing you. A second trip is already planned to pick up a key lime cupcake before you head out. 

8:30PM - 10PM - The party don't stop until someone's had a bonfire. In this case it was Alex. Thanks for hosting us, bud.

And just like that, my big day had come and gone. The result of months of planning passed with the sunset. (<< too dramatic?)

THANK YOU. Whether you came, wished you could have and were not able to come, helped, or whatever, thank you. I had an absolute blast at my party and it wouldn't have been fun at all without the help and support of others. I wish I could've talked to each of you longer!
